Brad Pitt is reteaming with Andrew Dominik, his director of The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, for a comedic crime story titled Cogan’s Trade.
The project, being financed by Inferno, is being unveiled at the American Film Market.
Trade centers on Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game under protection of the mob.
Sources say Dominik is seeking to reunite some of his Jesse James actors for the ensemble movie, with names such as Sam Rockwell and Casey Affleck mentioned as among those that may join Pitt. Also on the list are Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem.
Producers on the film include Pitt and Dede Gardner from Plan B and Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz from Chockstone. Inferno’s Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel will exec produce along with Marc Butan.
CAA, which reps, Dominik, Pitt and his Plan B banner, brokered the deal between Plan B, Chockstone and Inferno and will handle domestic rights.

Not only is it exciting that Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck will be reuniting with their Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford Andrew Dominik for the comic heist tale Cogan's Trade, but the movie is actually going to get made, and soon. The local film magazine Scene Louisiana is reporting that the movie is set to start shooting in New Orleans in March, and in addition to Pitt and Affleck, the cast is rumored to include fellow Jesse James star Sam Rockwell, plus Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana.

That cast list is insane, granted, and I have a hard time imagining that every single one of those rumored names will actually wind up in the credits list-- for instance, how would Ruffalo balance shooting this in New Orleans with Hulking out for The Avengersin New Mexico around the same time? Then again, it's not surprising that this caliber of actors would be lining up to work with Dominik-- Jesse James was an excellent showcase for its massive cast, even including Zooey Deschanel in her tiny role as a showgirl late in the film. Plus all of us mesmerized by the elegant cinematography and mournful tone of Jesse James will be eager to line up to see what Dominik does next. Even if he secures just one or two names off that wishlist, Cogan's Trade will jump up to "automatic must-see" consideration.

Weinstein Co. Back in Brad Pitt Business with ‘Cogan’s Trade’

Jut last week we brought you the news that Sam Rockwell had come aboard Cogan’s Trade, which is set to star Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem, and Mark Ruffalo, and this week, Deadline is reporting that The Weinstein Company has acquired distribution rights for the film.
Cogan’s Trade, which is being adapted from the George V. Higgins novel, has my Excite-O-Meter peaking at “Oh hells yeah”, given the top-notch cast and a director, Andrew Dominik, whose last two movies, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Chopper, proved that the man has some serious skills, to say the least. There’s also the film’s plot, which centers on Pitt as Jackie Cogan, a mod enforcer investigating a heist that went down during a mafia-sponsored high-stakes card game. In addition to directing, Dominik also penned the screenplay.

Production beings in February, for a release sometime in the first quarter of 2012.

Did Bob and Harvey Weinstein make a good move getting back into the Brad Pitt business for the first time since Inglourious Basterds?

Will James Gandolfini join Cogan's Trade?
Trade just keeps sounding better and better. Firstly, it has been picked up by The Weinstein Company and is set for an early 2012 release. Now Brad Pitt and Sam Rockwell are already confirmed, which is enough to make me see this day one. Casey Affleck is all but confirmed, and names like Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana are all hovering around the project. Sound good yet? Well today we get more casting news, Mr. Tony Soprano himself, yup that’s right, James Gandolfini is apparently in talks with director Andrew Dominik for a role in the film. Slowly but surely, Cogan’s Trade is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated films for 2012.

The Sopranos actor Vincent Curatola will reunite with James Gandolfini in Cogan's Trade.

Brad Pitt will star as Jackie Cogan, who is investigating the robbery of a high-stakes poker game. Vincent Curatola, who starred as mafia leader Johnny Sack in The Sopranos, will play a recently-released convict who seeks revenge on those who put him behind bars.

Andrew Dominik will direct Cogan's Trade from his own screenplay, which is based on the novel of the same name by George V. Higgins.

Cogan's Trade will begin shooting in New Orleans later this month.

Cogan's Trade comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Bella Heathcote. The film is directed by Andrew Dominik.

Add one more name to the impressive cast roster of Andrew Dominik‘s new film Cogan’s Trade. Brad Pitt stars in a story about a mob enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a poker game, and supporting roles are inhabited by James Gandolfini, Sam Rockwell, Vincent Curatola and Richard Jenkins.

Now Ray Liotta is in the mix, too.
THR mentions the new addition, saying that he plays “Mark “Markie” Trattman, the unfortunate hustler who runs the game in a motel room and finds things only going downhill from there.” That’s a fun role for Ray Liotta — rather than being a mover, it sounds like he’ll be a little bit behind the eight ball here.

THR also says that Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem are in the cast. Those two have been rumored to have parts for some time, but The Playlist talked to reps for Ruffalo, who say he isn’t in the film. Of Javier Bardem, there hasn’t been any official confirmation. And Casey Affleck is linked as well, though official confirmation of his participation is also forthcoming. Since he is the person whose comments initially alerted us to the fact that the movie might happen, he is assumed to be part of the project. Very much hoping that is the case — in fact, I’m hoping that both have roles. But don’t get too ready to see Javier Bardem in the film just yet

Just in time for Mardi Gras, Brad Pitt was seen on the New Orleans, Louisiana set of his upcoming flick Cogan's Trade Tuesday, and RadarOnline.com has the photos for you.
The Missouri-born A-lister sported a slicked-back 'do with long sideburns and an all-black outfit on the set on the movie (set for release next year), in which he plays a brutish mob enforcer.
