HOLLYWOOD superstar Brad Pitt is heading for Scotland to film a new £80million zombie movie, we can reveal today.
The big screen heart-throb will fly in after producers transform parts of Glasgow into a war-torn ruin for blockbuster World War Z. The movie will be one of the biggest film shoots ever seen in Scotland.
Scenes being shot in the city centre will feature explosions and gunfire as Brad, 47, battles to stop zombies taking over the world.
Glasgow will double for the US city of Philadelphia, with false shop fronts being constructed and American cars on the roads.
Streets around George Square will be closed in August as shooting begins and the square itself will be the base for the film crew and actors.
Producers plan to erect a tented village, complete with huge trailers for Brad and his co-stars.
Sources say he will spend two weeks shooting in Glasgow
An insider said: "The whole thing has been shrouded in secrecy but it had to come out at some point.
"The film is a big thing for Glasgow and the whole of Scotland. It will provide a big boost to the economy.
"The good news is that Brad will be right at the centre of the action... and there will be plenty of action.
"It should be pretty spectacular and, as it is happening in August, we can at least hope there won't be too many weather delays."
The Casting Collective have been advertising for zombie extras in Glasgow but hopefuls did not realise the scale of the movie they were auditioning for.
It is believed World War Z could be worth more than £1.5million to the Scottish economy.
The movie is being produced by Brad's Plan B Entertainment production company for Paramount Pictures.
They won the rights after a fierce bidding war with Leonardo Di Caprio's production company Appian Way. Brad also takes lead acting duties on the film, based on Max Brooks' horror novel.
Scripts based on a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski have already leaked on the internet leading to speculation that the film will be in the running for a Best Picture Oscar.
The action takes place in the aftermath of a huge zombie uprising which leads to a world war.
Most of the action will be shot in the streets surrounding George Square, chosen because of their likeness to Philadelphia.
According to industry rumours, some of the action will also be shot in Malta and at London's Pinewood studios.
Another source said: "There has been an international scouting operation looking for streets which resemble American city centres.
"They are looking at places like St Vincent Street, which will be closed off when filming takes place.
"The cast and crew will be based in George Square and they are planning to build a tented village there."
The Casting Collective, who are behind the zombie search, last night said they were unable to comment on the movie.
